SUMMERTIME MAKE UP HINTS & TIPS,
Words by International Hair & Make Up Stylist Lianne Claire
With the heat of summer upon us & so kaftan season is well & truly here… So it’s time to start getting into our favourite make up looks for the season
Winter is done & dusted so gone are those heavy maroon & darker shades of lips and velvet matte bases. Let’s make way for some super bronzed and peach Goddess makeup designs that are perfect for summer fashion styles.
Working recently as a makeup artist for THE ICONIC’s recent runway show, we took on our own bronzed and peach makeup designs to welcome in the Aussie summer and these modern make up styles went down an absolute treat! These looks are super easy to recreate yourself at home, with minimal products and the right tools.
Here is my take on summer make up styles and a complete beauty breakdown to assist you in your summer glowy Goddess makeup journey:
Instead of piling loads powders as a base, I am currently mixing one of my fave moisturisers with a liquid luminiser for that all over fresh glow from underneath the foundation. Less is more ladies. Let’s be honest, no one can be bothered to layer upon layer product onto their face before heading out – particularly in this heat – or else risk sweating out your make up on any day over 20 degrees celcuis.
SETTING THE FOUNDATION
Already your skin will look a million dollars. If you are lucky enough to not need more than this on the skin, don’t add any coverage.
For those of us who are not so lucky, I use my favourite foundation on the models for this look – Check out Harlotte’s Afterglow.
I take this foundation around the world with me. It can stand the harsh Ibiza summer sun on brides, models and dancers, so im certain it will be ideal for our Aussie Summer sun.
Decent coverage and brilliant staying power. ALSO – WE LOVE that this brand is Aussie owned and made that is absolutely on-par with quality & effect, internationally!
To keep that look dewy and unpowdered, I am obsessed with http://www.maccosmetics.com.au/product/14771/22075/products/skincare/bb-cc/prep-prime-bb-beauty-balm-compact-spf-30#/shade/Dark_Plus
CONTOURING THE CHEEKS
As my contour for the cheeks – I have had this obsession for a while. Super easy to blend as it is a cream product and is completely workable!
The world has fallen in love with highlighters, which for me as a makeup artist is ace – its means the cosmetic companies are pumping out incredibly beautiful products and the selection is endless!
For my runway look I chose
To run along the top of the cheek, around the temples, the bridge of the nose and on the little M in the middle of your top lip. Easy.
Summer brows needn’t be to thick and heavy, no Geordie Shore business here ladies!
I prefer a powdered brushed through brow:
PEACHY & BRONZED EYES
For those bronzey peachy eyelids, my go to product for any look I am doing is
This cream eyeshadow dries, so it doesn’t budge. The pigments are beautiful and can be a base for any look you desire. TIP: work quickly as they do dry, BLEND BLEND BLEND!!
On the inner corner of the eye to open that area up and give it some dimension!
A teeny bit of a darker eyeshadow with an angle brush along your lower lashes will frame the eye without looking heavy. I used the cool brown shimmer in this killer palette:
Hands up who uses white eye pencil on their inner rim?!?! Staple move in my makeup routine. This is an oldie but a goodie:
For me, eye makeup is ALL about the lash. I always think it is best to have less going on in terms of eyeshadow and LOADS of lash. So CURL those lashes like never before and load up on the mascara. Curl your lashes ladies, don’t pretend you do. Pump the lash through your curler and make them work!
Lastly a glossy peachy lip always wins:
This is a fresh and beautiful look that is more than achievable if you have the correct products, tools and TIME! Please don’t allow yourself 3 minutes to do this before leaving the house chicas… Completely unrealistic and stressful! Slow it down, take your time and enjoy the process. Makeup should be a fun artistic outlet for you, not a CHORE!!
