KAFTAN STYLING FOR WINTER TIME - How to wear the style in the colder months of the year
For sooooo many women like me, a Silk Kaftan is the ultimate summer wardrobe staple. So soft on the skin, are easy to wear in the heat and easily dressed up or down to match the occasion, a lux kaftan is the perfect summer one-piece.
BUT, now that the weather has cooled down considerably in most parts of Australia, it got me to thinking, how on earth can I keep wearing my favourite pieces without freezing?
So I trialled some ideas, and took my ensemble out to Bowral on a cold 10 degree C day to road test some looks to help bring this gorgeous summer piece in the mix for winter! Read on for my styling hints & tips
KAFTAN STYLING TIPS FOR WINTER:
- ACCESSORISE – WITH A WOOL SCARF
The quickest way for warmth and to add jazz to an outfit with a pop of color & texture,is to incorporate a scarf. When picking a scarf to match, go for something that is wool or a knit based textile to get the maximum warmth and bring on that winter effect. Choose colours that blend with, or are present in the kaftan's colour tone, or a scarf that matches all of your other accessories. The scarf adds a layer of effortless style!
- PAIR WITH THICK STOCKINGS AND ANKLE BOOTS.
Firstly, I adore ankle boots. I just need to say that!
I love to pair them with anything and everything. But I was hesitant at first when pairing them with my silk garment. Honestly, (in my opinion!) it didn't disappoint. The boots take the outfit from summer to Autumn/Winter, and add a certain chic feel to the look.
Look for boots in black, earthy browns and neutrals, or in colours that match the kaftan, and opt for a softer style boot in a suede unless you're pairing leather boots with a matching leather jacket.
- FOR SHORTER STYLES (OR LONGER IF YOU WANT TO PLAY AROUND), ADD BLACK JEANS.
This works great with the kaftan tops and shorter kaftans! Adding black jeans (distressed jeans add a bit of toughness to the look) is a great addition for warmth and style. The kaftan works as a tunic top, and together it creates an entire outfit perfect for the cooler weather. If you want to wear a long kaftan, that's perfectly fine too! You can tie or knot it shorter to sit at a tunic length, or do the sneaky 'undie tuck' straight into the waistband of your jeans.
- WEAR A BLACK LEATHER JACKET TO WINTER-UP & TOUGHEN YOUR STYLE.
I find black tights or trousers work best when pairing with your kaftan for winter - and nothing screams style more than a hot leather jacket. I also like to pair a Maxi Dress with suede for a slightly softer look, but again, I always try and go for a black, or a neutral brown so as not to take away from the print.
- FOR EXTRA WARMTH, ADD A COAT OR JACKET TO FINISH THE LOOK.
For those extra cold days, don't hesitate to pop on a coat, gloves and beanie for layering. You'll take it off once inside anyway, and it can bring an extra layer of chic to the look!
And for those super chilly days, wear a thermal singlet underneath! You can't see it through the kaftan, and it keeps your body nice and toasty through the silk - win win! I bet you can't even tell that I'm wearing a singlet underneath my outfit!
Though kaftans may seem too summery to be featured in your trans-seasonal wardribe, the beautiful prints work amazingly to bring a pop of colour and fun to your outfit. Teamed with the right accessories, and appropriately styled to suit the weather, the silk kaftan can be a great piece to wear all year round. How do you style your kaftans for the cooler weather?
